Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports says Edgar Renteria doesn’t feel disrespected by the San Francisco Giants, and stressed that he has no hard feelings for the Giants.  

“I understand the game, I understand what’s going on with the business,” Renteria said. “They’re a great organization. Everybody treated me good. They offered that ($1M/1 Year) because they think that’s my value. I thought that wasn’t my value. So we didn’t have an agreement. That’s why I didn’t sign with them. But it’s nothing personal. It’s about business.”  

Renteria later signed with the Cincinnati Reds for one year, $2.1 million.

Speaking of Former Giants shortstop’s. Royce Clayton stopped by the Giants Spring Training camp today. Clayton is portraying Miguel Tejada in the upcoming movie Moneyball.

Ex-Giants Getting Rings

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News says although Fred Lewis never played a game with the 2010 San Francisco Giants, he’s getting a ring. Lewis started the season on the DL and was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays on April 15. Other players that will also be getting a World Series ring are John Bowker, Joe Martinez and Jose Guillen.

Cactus League Opener

Tim Lincecum will start the Cactus League opener for the Giants on Friday afternoon against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

No League Minimum For Posey

Buster Posey’s representatives and the Giants are trying to work on a one year deal for 2011. Any player like Posey that has under 3 years of experience can be paid what the team decides to pay them as long as it’s the league minimum ($414,000) or more. The Giants don’t have to work out a deal with Posey, but they don’t want to just give him the minimum. They want to keep their rising star happy.

Time To Retire?

Ex-Giant Jose Guillen says he will retire if no teams are interested in his services by next week.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says he has heard from a number of folks that Pablo Sandoval‘s conditioning work at a private facility in Arizona is paying dividends. Sandoval told Rich Aurilia just before Christmas that he had lost 17 pounds.  

Sandoval would like to drop 24 pounds by the start of spring training.  

Shawon Dunston said if Sandoval gets back to his 2009 form then watch out, because Sandoval will be like their new free agent.

Side Notes

The Reds have not only signed Edgar Renteria, but they also signed ex-Giant Fred Lewis according to the Cincinnati Reds twitter.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com said (via twitter) 5 days ago that ex-Giant Kevin Frandsen signed a minor league deal with the Padres. Frandsen will make $575,000 if he makes the big league roster.

The San Francisco Giants can cross Edgar Renteria off their list for a backup shortstop. CSNBayArea.com tells us that Renteria has a deal with the Cincinnati Reds for one-year, $3 million dollars.
 
The Giants must decide if they want to fill the backup shortstop role within, or look to free agent options like Orlando Cabrera, Bobby Crosby, Julio Lugo or Cristian Guzman.

Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com says Edgar Renteria and the San Francisco Giants “re-engaged” in contract talks on Monday night. Renteria is weighing multiple offers from other teams, so the Giants are not optimistic about retaining the 2010 World Series MVP.
 
The Giants offered Renteria a one year contract worth $1M to be the backup shortstop to Miguel Tejada.

The San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey will be on the cover of ESPN The Magazine’s January 10, 2011 issue. Posey lived up to the hype by batting .305 with 18 homers, and catching the Giants great pitching staff.

Posey has won the World Series and Rookie of the Year. Not bad for a guy called up on May 29th. Maybe we will see an MVP in the future?  

Renteria Update  

The World Series MVP Edgar Renteria has another team showing interest. The Cincinnati Reds have contacted Renteria’s agent. They are also looking for a backup shortstop like the Giants. The Florida Marlins do not appear to still be showing interest in bringing Renteria back to Florida.  

Renteria is coming off an injury plagued season. He was limited to 72 games this year. Renteria hit .276 with 3 homers and 22 RBI’s. He didn’t appear to live up to his 2 years/$18M contract, but some say he did by his 2010 World Series performance.

Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com reports that Edgar Renteria felt disrespected by the Giants 1 year offer for $1 million.
 
“That offer from the Giants was a lack of respect. A total disrespect.”
 
“To play for a million dollars, I’d rather stay with my private business and share more time with my family,” Renteria said. “Thank god I’m well off financially and my money is well invested.”
 
Ratto Shares Thoughts on Giants Offseason
 
Ray Ratto of Comcast SportsNet tells SF Giants Rumors his thoughts on the Giants quiet offseason. Ratto says the best and most important players got more money from other teams with friendlier ballparks. Carl Crawford would never come here, and Jason Werth got a deal from Washington that no one else would approach. Ratto also said that when the Giants signed Aubrey Huff they didn’t need Adam Dunn, and there isn’t a lot else out there.

Now that the San Francisco Giants have won the World Series. I’m sure there are a few of you that wish you went back in time like Marty McFly and did some Sports Betting. The Giants are not having a loud offseasn. They are quietly trying to keep the core team together, and mix and match a few players.
 
They succeeded in their top offseason priority and that was re-signing Aubrey Huff. He was a big piece of the Giants success. The Giants tried to bring back Juan Uribe, but he decided that he wanted to go down south to the hated Dodgers. The Giants were quick to sign Miguel Tejada to replace Uribe. Tejada is on the decline, but still a nice replacement for Uribe. Pat Burrell also re-signed for a hometown discount of $1 million.
 
Now you ask what’s left that the Giants are trying to do? It’s find a backup shortstop. Yes, they have Mark DeRosa and Mike Fontenot. That’s just not going to cut it if Tejada goes down, so the Giants are hoping that Edgar Renteria will return in a backup role for $1 million.
 
The 2011 lineup is starting off better than it did at the start of the 2010 season and they won the World Series. Only time will tell how the 2011 Giants finish.

The San Francisco Giants have made an offer to Edgar Renteria. It’s a one year deal for $1 million in a backup role. If Renteria wants to be back in a Giants uniform it will have to be in the same price range that Pat Burrell accepted to return to the Giants.

The San Francisco Giants announced that their 2011 payroll will be $120 million. That’s because of player raises and Miguel Tejada and Aubrey Huff‘s new contracts.
 
Bruce Bochy has one more year on his contract (2011) so should the Giants reward the first World Series manager in San Francisco history with a contract extension? Possible extension in the works.
 
The Giants beat writer Chris Haft speculates (In his blog) that the Giants can possibly be eyeing outfielder Scott Podsednik. Sabean would like to add a left-handed bat and it doesn’t have to be a power hitter. He’s a career .279 hitter with 301 stolen bases in 10 seasons.
 
Carl Steward of the San Jose Mercury News shares with us some insights of the Winter Meetings in Florida.
 
Aaron Rowand still has two years left on his contract. It’s no secret that the Giants may be looking to trade him for a left-handed bat. If he does stay with the Giants he will be asked to also play some left/right field as well.
 
The Giants are still looking for a backup shortstop and Edgar Renteria still remains in the loop.

Mark DeRosa will be taking over at the super utility role. He can play all the infield positions (not catcher/pitcher) and left field. He’s coming off wrist surgery.

Darren Ford will likely start the season in Fresno. Bochy says Ford needs to get more consistent with the bat.

Pablo Sandoval has lost a little over 10 pounds. Brian Sabean has said if Sandoval doesn’t meet weight requirements then he will start the season in the minors.

“He’s got a little ways to go. I don’t want to put a number on it, but he’s still probably got 15 or so somewhere in there.” – Bochy on Sandoval

Freddy Sanchez has had shoulder surgery on his left shoulder and is expected to be ready by opening day. He won’t be ready by Spring Training, but should be able to get some exhibition games in before the season starts.
