SF Giants Rumors: Giants Likely To Non-Tender Eli Whiteside

Posted on November 17th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

It’s not a crazy offseason for the Giants front office so far. They haven’t been actively pursuing top tier free agents, publicly anyways.

As of now we know of two players that aren’t coming back. Pat Burrell is likely headed to retirement because of his foot problems. Jonathan Sanchez has been traded for Melky Cabrera.

According to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News, the Giants might be parting ways with catcher Eli Whiteside. Chris Stewart clearly brought more defensive skills to the table last year, and with a healthy Buster Posey coming back. All three catchers will not be needed on the roster.

SF Giants Rumors: Cecil Fielder Lists The Giants As A Possible Destination For Prince Fielder

Posted on October 21st, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Cecil Fielder (Prince Fielder‘s dad) went on a radio show in Toronto (SportsNet 590, The Fan) with Jeff Blair. Fielder chimed in on his son hitting the free agent market. He believes Prince will stay in the National League.

“With the Cubs doing what they did with Epstein, the Dodgers now getting themselves together, the San Francisco Giants getting themselves together cause they know they need some hitting,” Fielder on possible destinations for Prince.

Fielder is not predicting any teams, but it’s nice to see the Giants mentioned in his speculations.

Prince Fielder’s 2011 Stats

G 162 AVG .299, HR 38, RBI 120, R 95, OBP .415

The Giants haven’t had a force like this in the lineup since Home Run King Barry Bonds. I would be on board for the Fielder signing. What’s your thoughts?

SF Giants Rumors: Sabathia Linked To The Giants

Posted on October 10th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe says there is a growing sentiment that CC Sabathia will opt out of his remaining four year ($92 million) contract with the Yankees. Cafardo says the usual teams in the mix would be the Red Sox, Angels, Dodgers, Tigers and the San Francisco Giants.

I’m sure Giants fans would love to see Sabathia in a Giants uniform, but this signing just isn’t going to happen. Sabathia will likely end up right back in New York with a larger contract. The Giants will not fork out that kind of dough to land another elite pitcher at this time.

The focus for the Giants is to keep the pitchers we currently have intact, and try to get some offense at the shortstop and outfield positions.

CC Sabathia – 2011 Stats

G 33, IP 237.1, ERA 3.00, W/L 19-8, SO 230, WHIP 1.226

SF Giants Rumors: Pablo Sandoval’s Offseason Goal

Posted on October 7th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

SF Giants Rumors has learned that Pablo Sandoval is in Venezuela right now, but he’ll be back in Arizona this offseason to work on his fitness. Sandoval’s goal is to be in great shape, and report to Spring Training around 235-240 pounds, but with the right level of both strength and agility!!

Last year after the San Francisco Giants won the 2010 World Series. Sandoval was told by GM Brian Sabean that he would start the season in the minors if he didn’t meet weight requirements. As we all know Sandoval worked hard, and his offense/defense reaped the benefits.

Sandoval’s 2011 Stats

G 117, AVG .315, HR 23, RBI 70, R 55, OBP .357

SF Giants Rumors: Carlos Beltran, Cody Ross, and Pat Burrell

Posted on September 29th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Henry Schulman said (via twitter) that Carlos Beltran said he’ll give the San Francisco Giants first crack to try to re-sign him. Once the World Series ends, Giants will have 5 days of exclusive negotiating rights to try to sign him before all the other teams can jump in the mix. It’s not likely that Beltran would re-sign that fast. I’m sure it’s going to be a long process, so he can see all his offers on the table from other teams.

Bruce Bochy pulled Beltran out after going 0-for-2 in the final game, so his batting average for the season wouldn’t drop below .300.

“I talked to Carlos last night. I got you covered. I’m not going to let you get under .300,” Bochy said on Beltran’s batting average.

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News says Cody Ross was named the recipient of the Bill Rigney Good Guy award, given annually to a Giants player for cooperation with the media. Ross smiled as he accepted the small crystal award.
“Aw, thanks,” Ross said. “It’ll go right next to my (NLCS) MVP trophy.”

Baggarly also says that Pat Burrell will give his chronic foot strain a month to improve this winter before making any retirement decisions. Burrell said he would return only to the Giants.

Burrell’s Stats In A Giants Uniform

G 188, AVG .252, HR 25, RBI 72, R 58, BB 80

SF Giants Rumors: Haft On Beltran Rumors, Mets Having A Fire Sale?

Posted on July 14th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Giants beat writer Chris Haft of MLB.com tells SF Giants Rumors that he doesn’t think the Mets will part with Jose Reyes, and if the San Francisco Giants can get Carlos Beltran without giving up Zack Wheeler or Brandon Belt. They should go for it.

Dan Martin of The New York Post says Mets GM Sandy Alderson hasn’t thrown in the towel just yet. The Mets are 7 1/2 games behind the Braves in the wild-card race.

“I do want to make it clear that the Rodriguez trade should not signal anything to anyone about Beltran. The far more important situation is how we play in the next two to three weeks,” Alderson said.

SF Giants Rumors – Trade Talk, Welcome Back Freddy and Zito Update

Posted on April 26th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com says (via twitter) that the Giants are letting teams know that Nate Schierholtz is available. Crasnick also says Schierholtz may be the odd man out when Andres Torres returns from his injury.

It may be true that the Giants are shopping Schierholtz, but let’s not forget that the Giants can send Darren Ford back to Triple-A Fresno when Torres comes off the DL.

Welcome Back (Again)

Jenifer Langosch (Pirates Beat Writer) of MLB.com tells SF Giants Rumors that Pirates fans loved Freddy Sanchez when he was in Pittsburgh, so he will be treated to a nice ovation.

Sanchez was a 3-time All Star, and won the NL Batting Title in 2006 (.344) while a member of the Pirates.

Trade Market

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says Mark DeRosa would be a perfect fit for the Florida Marlins as their biggest need is thrid base.

Rosenthal also chimes in on Miguel Tejada‘s struggles and says remember these names for the trade market Jose Reyes, Marco Scutaro and J.J. Hardy.

Injury Update

Andrew Baggarly says (via twitter) Barry Zito will see a specialist in North Carolina to examine his sprained foot tomorrow.

SF Giants Rumors – Torres, Ross, Free Lincecum Book

Posted on April 12th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle chimes in on Andres Torres and Cody Ross. Schulman says the Giants will decide today whether they should place Torres on the disabled list (DL). He also says Ross has began jogging and shagging flyballs. Ross will be joining the Giants on their trip to Arizona, and the plan is to get him some at-bats in extended spring games.

Opening Day I seen Ross playing catch and asked how his calf was feeling. He gave a thumbs up, so I’m sure he’s itching to get back on that field ASAP!
