SF Giants Rumors: Villalona Will Work His Way To San Jose

Posted on December 14th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle says Giants prospect Angel Villalona will likely open next season in extended spring training to work his way back to the San Jose Giants.

The San Francisco Giants are crowded at first base, but you never know what the future holds for any of these players. Villalona is still young and has raw power.

Let Villalona develop his skills and if the Giants don’t see him in their future plans at first base. Then they have a very nice trading chip. He wasn’t added to the 40-man roster for no reason. Let’s not forget that Villalona was projected as a middle of the order type hitter.

Let us know your thoughts on Villalona by posting a comment, or leaving one on the SF Giants Rumors Facebook page.

SF Giants Rumors: Mark DeRosa, Darren Ford and Wily Mo Pena

Posted on December 5th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

It’s time to get everyone caught up on what happened over the weekend, or since the last post on Friday.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says the San Francisco Giants have expressed interest in bringing Mark DeRosa back.

DeRosa is great clubhouse guy, and a healthy DeRosa would be a nice utility player. I would bring him back if he came back on a Pat Burrell kind of a deal (1-year, $1 million).

Fans on SF Giants Rumors Facebook page are ready to see the Giants move on, and pass on DeRosa. He signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Giants. DeRosa was pretty much hurt the entire contract.

DeRosa played 73 games for the Giants in two years. He’s hit .235 with 1 homer and 22 RBI in his Giants tenure.

Geoff Baker of The Seattle Times says the Mariners signed outfielder Darren Ford to a minor league contract and he’s also getting a spring training invite. SF Giants Rumors wishes Ford the best of luck, and his speed will be missed in San Francisco!

Jon Heyman of SI.com says (via twitter) that the Giants had interest in Wily Mo Pena. He recently signed with Japan’s Fukuoka Softbank Hawks for two-years, $5 million. Heyman says the Giants interest was not at that level though.

What’s your thoughts on the Giants possibly bringing DeRosa back, Ford in Mariners organization and the Giants interest in Pena?

SF Giants Rumors: No Talks With Lincecum For Multi-Year Deal At This Point

Posted on November 17th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says Tim Lincecum‘s representative, Rick Thurman, told him this morning he and the San Francisco Giants have not had one discussion about a multi-year contract and, in fact, have had “no substantive talks” on even a one-year deal that would prevent the sides from going to salary arbitration.

“My only expectation is that we’ll talk about a contract for 2012,” said Thurman when asked if he expects to talk about a long-term contract for Lincecum.

Even if a multi-year contract is not reached with Lincecum this offseason. There is nothing to worry about Giants fans. Lincecum is not eligible to be a free agent till after the 2013 season. There is still plenty of time for Lincecum and the Giants to work something out more long-term.

SF Giants Rumors: Larry Bowa on Jimmy Rollins And The Giants

Posted on October 13th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Former Phillies manager Larry Bowa was on 95.7 The Game with The Rise Guys. Bowa says Jimmy Rollins will consider coming to the Bay Area. Bowa says the San Francisco Giants can offer Rollins a 3-year deal, with 2-years of incentive-laden performances. For example if Rollins gives them so many at bats it will kick in.

“I know he’s from the west coast. I remember a conversation I had with him once when I was managing him. We talked about him growing up in Oakland and everything. I said is there any chance of you going back. He said you know that’s always been in my mind,” Bowa on Rollins possibly playing for the Giants.

SF Giants Rumors – Freddy Sanchez, Long Ball, Magic Number 4

Posted on September 29th, 2010 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

  F-Sanchez

Brian Sabean said on KNBR that Freddy Sanches shoulder pain is “nothing major”. He will have a cortisone shot and miss Tuesday nights game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. They are hoping Sanchez will be in the lineup tonight.

Sanchez Last 16 Games

R 9 HR 4 RBI 10 AVG .353 SB 1

Sanchez Season Stats

R 54 HR 7 RBI 45 AVG .295 SB 3

The San Francisco Giants have been hitting their share of homers lately. They have 12 in their last five games, and 15 in their last seven. A team early in the year that was desperate for some pop seems to have a lot of it right now.

Magic Number 4

It’s a combined number of Padres losses and Giants wins. If the Giants win tonight and the Padres lose. Then the new magic number will be 2.

SF Giants Rumors – Winners or Losers After Trading Deadline?

Posted on August 10th, 2010 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

  Sabean_Brian

I keep hearing from a lot of San Francisco Giants fans saying the Giants are fine. They don’t need to add a bat, or bringing in Jose Guillen is a bad idea. I recently read an article by Bob Nightengale (USA Today Sports Weekly Aug. 4-10 edition), and he listed the winners and losers at the trading deadline.

The Giants were no where to be found on the list. They weren’t winners or losers, so I guess that’s a good thing right? They brought in Javier Lopez and Ramon Ramirez right before the trading deadline. It was no secret that the Giants needed some bullpen help which they went out and got. They however still didn’t add a bat that they have been saying they needed.

They scored 7 runs in the 4 game series in Atlanta. That’s less than 2 runs a game. Which tells me the offense can still use a little help. Even the New York Yankees who are already an All Star team added two bats (Lance Berkman and Austin Kearns).

Let me tell you 3 teams that made the winners list. That’s the San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers. This is what Bob Nightengale had to say about the Padres.

“The Padres rewarded their players and fans by giving them every possible chance of winning the National West. They acquired outfielder Ryan Ludwick and shortstop Miguel Tejada, took on $3 million and didn’t give up any prized prospects. Great work by rookie GM Jed Hoyer”.

Now this is exactly what I have been saying about making some moves without sacrificing the farm system. It doesn’t  only take a huge splash to get us over the hump. Just get us some pop or some good players that can give other guys a rest and be a threat to come off the bench!

UPDATE

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle said (via twitter) Jose Guillen to the Giants not completely dead, but it’s not on the front burner either.
