SF Giants Rumors: Belt’s Breakout Game, Player Injuries

Posted on August 22nd, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Have a game Brandon Belt! Belt had a career high four hit game, and one of them was a 3-Run BOMB!

I know I’m not the only one that thinks Bruce Bochy needs to play Belt more. We have a lot of slumping players, and I don’t think they should just keep getting trotted out their cause they’re veterans. It’s time to let Belt show you what he can do on an everyday basis.

The Giants made a move this weekend by placing closer Brian Wilson on the DL, and bringing up Steve Edlefsen. Edlefsen made his MLB Debut yesterday, and got the Giants out of BIG jam! He pitched 1.1 innings and had 2 strikeouts. Edlefsen retired all four hitters that he faced.

There was a total of 11 players hurt during this road trip and 5 of them had to take a trip to the DL.

DL Players

Brian Wilson (elbow strain)

Eli Whiteside (concussion)

Carlos Beltran (hand strain)

Sergio Romo (elbow inflammation)

Andres Torres (leg contusion)

Injured Players (no DL)

Pablo Sandoval (shoulder inflammation, foot contusion)

Jonathan Sanchez (ankle sprain)

Orlando Cabrera (groin sprain)

Jeff Keppinger (hand stain)

Aaron Rowand (intercostal strain)

Nate Schierholtz (foot contusion)

SF Giants Rumors: Beltran, Sanchez, Runzler, Torres, Crawford

Posted on August 19th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Carlos Beltran will be starting baseball activities this weekend. The Giants are hopeful Beltran will be available Tuesday, when the Giants kick off their homestand against the Padres.

Jonathan Sanchez (sprained ankle) is going to throw off the flat ground today. If Sanchez feels pain, and doesn’t think he can start Sunday. The Giants will likely have to go with Dan Runzler as the spot starter.

“If I can press and push off, I’ll be fine,” says Sanchez.

Andres Torres played a rehab game last night with the Fresno Grizzles. Torres went 0-for-4 with 2 strikeouts.

Brandon Crawford had a very nice game for the Grizzles by going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. He’s batting .321 in Fresno. He should be back with the Giants on September 1st when the rosters expand.

SF Giants Rumors: Turn The Tide, Happy Lincecum Day!

Posted on August 18th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

The San Francisco Giants finally defeated the Atlanta Braves last night. It’s the Giants first (regular season games) win against the Braves in eight tries, dating back to 8/7/10. The seven losing pitchers in that stretch was Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez, Madison Bumgarner, Tim Lincecum, Brian Wilson (twice) and Javier Lopez.

Jonathan Sanchez was walking around the clubhouse, and appears to be much better after spraining his ankle Tuesday night. Sanchez is hoping he can make his next start Sunday in Houston.

Tim Lincecum takes the mound tonight for the G-Men as they look for the series split. Lincecum has the lowest ERA on the road since June 19th (0.69). He’s the perfect guy to trot out there to get a winning streak going.

Giants fans are leaving comments here and on SF Giants Rumors Facebook. They’re feeling the pressure of this skid the Giants have been on.

At this time last year the Giants were 5 games back of the San Diego Padres. They’re only 2 1/2 back of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

There is still plenty of baseball to be played before it’s all said and done! Anyone else feeling like the glass is 1/2 full?

SF Giants Rumors: Bad August, But Still Time To Turn It Around

Posted on August 17th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Is it the year of the injured? The San Francisco Giants have had 18 players hit the DL this season. Jonathan Sanchez is back on it, and Waldis Joaquin in on his way to Atlanta to take his spot on the roster.

The Giants are now six games behind the Braves in the Wild Card race, and three 1/2 back of the Diamondback in the NL West.

The G-Men are 4-6 in their last 10 games, and have lost 10 of their 15 games in the month of August.

There is still 2 more games left in Atlanta, so if things go the Giants way. It’s possible to still split the series, and leave Atlanta only 4 games back in the Wild Card race.

Matt Cain take the mound tonight and hopes to get the Giants back on the winning track. Cain is 9-9 this year with a 3.00 ERA.

Nate Schierholtz and Jeff Keppinger both had MRI’s and they both came back negative, so both players are listed as day-to-day.

SF Giants Rumors: Possible Number 5 Starters, Beltran Update

Posted on August 11th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Steve Kroner of the San Francisco Chronicle says Bruce Bochy wouldn’t commit to Jonathan Sanchez making his next scheduled start, Tuesday in Atlanta.

“We don’t try to bang it with the other club,” Bochy said. “We try to pitch and keep it close and find a way to win the game. A lot of these games we let get away.”

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News says Barry Zito is scheduled to start for the Fresno Grizzlies on Saturday, but those plans could change.

Possible starters for the Giants Tuesday in Atlanta are Sanchez, Zito, Eric Surkamp or Dan Runzler. Please stay tuned…

Beltran Update

Carlos Beltran is doubtful for Friday’s game in Florida. Beltran has received a cortisone shot for his wrist, and could possibly be headed to the DL. If Beltran takes a trip to the DL, Brandon Belt may get another call back to the show. His frequent flyer miles have to be adding up!

SF Giants Rumors: Sanchez, Zito, Updated Stats for Beltran, Keppinger and Cabrera

Posted on August 2nd, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Freddy Sanchez is having season-ending shoulder surgery today, and Giants fans are sure going to miss him! He’s having the surgery today, so he can be ready for Spring Training next year.

Barry Zito has been placed on the DL to make make room for Jonathan Sanchez. Sanchez will get the start Friday night against the Phillies.

Zito didn’t appear to be injured after his last start, but it’s a way to not have to DFA him for now.

Since Being Traded

Carlos Beltran is 4-for-21 (.190) in a Giants uniform and 2 of those hits (2-for-4) came in his first home game as a Giant last night.

Jeff Keppinger is hitting .262 (11-for-42) in 11 games for the Giants. He’s holding down second base for the injured F-Sanchez.

Orlando Cabrera has only played in 2 games for the G-Men and is hitting .143 (1-for-7) in a Giants uniform. He’s excited to be a Giant since he lost his starting role with the Indians.

There is still plenty of games left, and let’s not forget that the Giants are still in first by 1 game over the Diamondbacks. These 3 players are going to get their strokes soon, and this offensive will get a kick (like having a Red Bull) by these additions to the lineup.

SF Giants Rumors: Sabean Insights, Payroll Flexibility

Posted on July 22nd, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

The San Francisco Giants GM Brian Sabean was on with Ralph and Tom (yesterday) on KNBR.

When asked who the odd man out is when the dust settles and Jeff Keppinger is in place.Sabean said Manny Burriss can be used in double switches for multiple positions (2B and SS). Which doesn’t answer the question, but hints that it won’t be Burriss.

With the trading deadline drawing near, Sabean say the Giants do have the flexibility to take on payroll, and said it’s tough to give up a premium prospect.

“We certainly won’t give up an untouchable (prospect),” says Sabean.

Freddy Sanchez is going to start DHing on Monday, Sabean is hoping he could be back with the Giants in late August.

Jonathan Sanchez is taking the mound tonight for the Fresno Grizzlies, and will have another start after that before the Giants re-evaluate him again.

SF Giants Rumors: Giants Trading Season Is Open, Keppinger, Beltran Rumors, Etc.

Posted on July 19th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

The Houston Astros Sr. Director of Social Media Alyson Footer says (via twitter) the San Francisco Giants have traded RHP’s Henry Sosa and Jason Stoffel to the Astros for INF Jeff Keppinger. Let the trading season begin for the Giants!

Keppinger – 43 G, .307 AVG, 4 HR, 20 RBI, 22 R

Beltran Rumors

Now back to the Carlos Beltran rumors. Word on the street is the Mets are willing to eat up Beltran’s contract to get top prospects in return. That’s news that the Giants front office is hoping isn’t really true. The G-Men would like to take on the added payroll of the remaining of Beltran’s contract, rather than part with a Zack Wheeler or Brandon Belt.

Miguel Tejada left the game in the third inning of last nights game with an abdominal strain. Tejada is listed as day-to-day, and will not be headed to the DL.

Jonathan Sanchez is hoping for better results the next time he takes the mound. Sanchez is scheduled to have his next rehab start for the Fresno Grizzlies on July 19.

SF Giants Rumors: White House, Desmond, Crawford, Rehab Assignments

Posted on July 18th, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Lori Preuitt of NBC Bay Area says the San Francisco Giants will fly to Washington D.C. after Sunday nights game. The 2010 World Series Champions are going to the White House on Monday to hangout with President Obama, and see if they can get our gas prices lowered (just kidding).

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says the Washington Nationals might be willing to part with shortstop Ian Desmond.

“Desmond, even with his offensive regression, would qualify as an upgrade for teams such as the Twins, Giants and Brewers.”

Desmond 2011 Stats

Desmond – 88 G, .226 AVG, 3 HR, 24 RBI, 34 R, 20 SB

Brandon Crawford is the Giants current shortstop and below are his 2011 stats.

Crawford – 40 G, .194 AVG, 2 HR, 16 RBI, 14 R, 1 SB

Rehab Assignments

Mark DeRosa was in San Jose this past weekend trying to get his swing going, and testing his wrist. DeRosa went 2-for-5, and will join the Fresno Grizzlies tomorrow.

Jonathan Sanchez got lit up in his first rehab start yesterday for the San Jose Giants. Sanchez pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and six runs.
