The San Francisco Giants hot hitting outfielder Melky Cabrera has fell back down to earth. Cabrera had an 0-for-4 night, and is hitless in his last 12 at-bats (.293 AVG).
Buster Posey‘s bat is starting to heat up. Posey had a 3-for-4 night, and is now currently hitting .321.
Pablo Sandoval has a 10 game hitting streak going right now, and is hitting .325 for the season.
Giants ace Tim Lincecum has fallen to an 0-and-2 start. Lincecum had another bad 1st inning, and has allowed 9 1st inning runs in just 3 starts. Last year Lincecum allowed 8 1st inning runs for the entire season.
I’m still not really worried about Lincecum. He’s going to turn this around, and there was signs of that from the second inning and on in last nights game.
Infielder Freddy Sanchez has had a minor setback. He felt soreness from throwing and will likely join the San Jose Giants by the end of the week.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says the Kung Fu Panda is now locked in. The San Francisco Giants and Pablo Sandoval have agreed to a three-year deal worth $17.15 million. Sandoval will be making $3.2 million in 2012, $5.7 million in 2013, and $8.25 million in 2014. Which means all of his arbitration years are covered. Sandoval is eligible to be a free agent prior to the 2015 season.
Nate Schierholtz also avoids arbitration by signing a one-year deal worth $1.3 million. As reported yesterday on SF Giants Rumors, Melky Cabrera ($6 million), Santiago Casilla ($2.2 million) and Angel Pagan ($4.85 million) have also signed to avoid arbitration. The only pending arbitration eligible players for the Giants are Tim Lincecum and Sergio Romo.
Lincecum has filed for $21.5 million and the Giants countered with $17 million offer. They are just $4.5 million apart, so I’m confident they will come to an agreement before any arbitration hearing has to take place. If Lincecum gets more than $19 million this year. He will surpass Barry Zito as the highest paid player on the Giants in 2012.
Romo should also find some common ground with the Giants as he asked for $1.75 million and the Giants offered $1.3 million. Maybe they can just meet at $1.5 million and call it a day.
Side Note
John Shea says (via twitter) he asked Bobby Evans if there is payroll room for a starting pitcher and outfield depth. Evans told him the five starters are in place and mentioned Gregor Blanco as possible outfield depth. Blanco hit .274 last season for the Royals in 49 games.
What’s your thoughts on all these signings and the two guys that still haven’t signed yet?

The San Francisco Giants have just crossed three players off their arbitration eligible list. Chris Haft of MLB.com says the Giants have signed outfielder Angel Pagan to a one-year, $4.85 million contract on Monday. Pagan was traded to the Giants in exchange for Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez. Pagan is likely going to be the starting center fielder and bat leadoff.
Enrique Rojas of ESPN said (via twitter) the Giants have avoided arbitration with Melky Cabrera. It’s reported as a one-year deal for $6 million. Cabrera was obtained by the Giants in a trade that sent pitcher Jonathan Sanchez and minor league pitcher Ryan Verdugo to the Royals. Cabrera is likely going to be the starting left fielder.
Rojas also sent out another tweet saying Santiago Casilla has also inked a deal with the Giants for one-year, $2.2 million (plus 200K in incentives). Which crosses off three players on the Giants arbitration list.
The remaining arbitration eligible players on the Giants list are Tim Lincecum, Pablo Sandoval, Nate Schierholtz, and Sergio Romo.
Do you think the Giants and Lincecum will reach an agreement or go through the whole arbitration process?

There has been a total of 142 players that have filed for salary arbitration. Tomorrow (Jan. 17, 2012) is the day that salary arbitration figures are going to be exchanged. The players/teams that do not reach an agreement will be going through hearings that will start February 1 – 21 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The San Francisco Giants have seven players that have filed. Giants ace Tim Lincecum leads the group. The others are Pablo Sandoval, Nate Schierholtz, Melky Cabrera, Angel Pagan, Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla.
The team and players can still come to an agreement before their scheduled hearings. It was just two years ago, Lincecum was moments away from his arbitration hearing when he and the Giants came to an agreement (two-years, $23 million).

Chris Haft of MLB.com says it’s easy to envision Pablo Sandoval becoming one of the National League’s elite hitters. However, Sandoval can’t vault into baseball’s upper echelon by himself. Sandoval needs a consistent, effective complement in the lineup to prevent teams from pitching around him or prevent himself from trying to do too much.
Haft also points out that Sandoval hit .329 with 12 homers and 32 RBIs with Carlos Beltran hitting ahead of him (final two months). Prior to Beltran joining the Giants. Sandoval was hitting .304 with 11 homers and 38 RBIs.
Now that Beltran isn’t returning to the Giants. Who’s going to fill that void and take some pressure off of Sandoval? The San Francisco Giants have a lot of hope going into 2012, so it’s really a guessing game for now.
They hope Buster Posey and Freddy Sanchez will be healthy. They hope Brandon Belt will overcome his struggles, and Aubrey Huff will have a bounce back year since he’s reportedly in better shape.
Sandoval is a career .307 hitter with 64 homers. Do you see Sandoval staying consistent and becoming an elite hitter in the National League for years to come?

Now that the 2011 year is over. I have been reflecting on how far SF Giants Rumors site has come in 2011. It started on a high note as in January everyone was still feeling great about the San Francisco Giants winning the 2010 World Series.
The first big moment for SF Giants Rumors in 2011 was when I posted an exclusive Pablo Sandoval video of him working out on January 17, 2011. It was big because fans got a chance to see him working out hard to shed some pounds. MLB Trade Rumors linked to this post on January 21, 2011. Them linking to SF Giants Rumors really helped get the word out there to a lot of Giants fans that weren’t aware of the site.
It was just a few days later that I was able to post a short Q&A With Pablo Sandoval. Giants fans loved it, and those two posts started getting fans to the site on a regular basis, which helped the traffic of the site to gain momentum. Fan started to hear about the site by word-of-mouth.
I then was able to do a Q&A With Brandon Crawford (prior to his MLB debut). Next thing I know, I’m invited to attend Media Day at AT&T Park. I was able to get my credentials, and walk in like any other representative of the media. I chatted with Mike Fontenot, Pat Burrell, Darren Ford, and a bunch of other Giants. You can look up the King of Cali Blog on the right sidebar and look back to February 2011, and see some of the posts/videos.
I attended Spring Training, and received credentials to go on the field, hangout in the press box and in the locker room area. I was able to chat with some players, and snap some pictures. Everyone in the clubhouse was really cool and didn’t look at me weird, like who the hell are you? They just would say what’s up as they pass by or stick out their hands to give me knuckles. Yes, I can confirm that Andres Torres would say hi and wave (with a smile) every time he would pass me.
As the year kept moving along. I was able to chat with a lot of people in the media (Chris Haft, Andrew Baggarly, Jerry Crasnick etc.). I have been given some great advice, and even chat with some on a regular basis to share their insights with me about the Giants. I have made some great relationships with some sports agents as well. All of these connections have helped me create my own unique content for SF Giants Rumors. Which allows me to sometimes share some different stories or insights that you won’t find on other sites.
This site also gained a lot of exposure as the year went on (Facebook, Twitter) and I had readers sending me emails requesting me to build an iPhone app. I haven’t got a chance to do that yet because they’re really expensive. However, there is an email alerts list that you can request to be on.
I was able to get credentials so I could meet Gary Brown and Zack Wheeler. Both players were willing to do a Q&A, so I interviewed them both separately, right after batting practice at a San Jose Giants game. Click the Q&A link on the right sidebar to view all the Q&A’s that have been posted on SF Giants Rumors.
To make this long story about 2011 not drag on any longer. Basically 2011 was a great year for the site and getting my foot in the media world. Only time will tell if I’m just one lucky blogger that had a chance to see what it’s like in the media, or if 2011 was only the start to something better in 2012.

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News says he spoke with Pablo Sandoval‘s agent Ryan Morgan. Morgan tells Baggarly that he has had very broad discussions with Giants VP Bobby Evans about a contract. Sandoval’s camp is open to a multi-year contract.
Sandoval is arbitration eligible and is not eligible to hit the free agent market till 2015. One thing we do know is Sandoval will get a raise from his 2011 salary ($500K). The Kung Fu Panda hit .315 with 23 homers and 70 RBI’s in 2011. Did I forget to mention he was also an All Star? I’m not concerned about him signing a multi-year deal at this point. They still have time to lock him up before he can test the water in the free agent pool.
Side Notes
Travis Ishikawa is a free agent, and trying to comeback from an injury that had him miss a lot of time in 2011. Alex Hinshaw has signed a minor league deal with the Padres.

The San Francisco Giants 3rd baseman Pablo Sandoval sent out some tweets last night. He will not be playing Venezuelan winter ball, but will participate in their home run derby. Sandoval said he’s not playing winter ball, because he’s in negotiations with the Giants.
“Hi everyone, just want to let everyone know, that I won’t be playing winter ball this year. Thanks for the support,” Sandoval tweet.
Sandoval is an arbitration eligible player, and his 2011 salary was $500,000. Look for a nice pay raise for the Kung Fu Panda. Keep in mind the Giants are trying to keep their payroll around $130 million for 2012, so lets see what they work out for his 2012 salary.
Tis The Season To Get Married
The highest paid Giants player, Barry Zito has applied for a marriage license, and CSNBayArea.com sources say the wedding will take place this Saturday in Marin County. The future Mrs. Zito is Amber Marie Seyer. She’s a 25-year-old actress and former Miss Missouri USA.
Nate Schierholtz is also getting married this Saturday (same day as Zito) in Texas to his longtime girlfriend, 25-year-old business consultant Kate Eveland.
Someone that has already tied the knot this offseason is shortstop Brandon Crawford. B-Craw was just married this past weekend.
What’s your thoughts on Sandoval, and who do you think is the next Giants player to get married? =)

Bruce Jenkins of the San Francisco Chronicle says the Giants are one bat shy of regaining their dominance in the NL West. Jenkins believes a two or three year deal with Carlos Beltran would do the trick.
Jenkins also points out if the Giants get Buster Posey, Freddy Sanchez and Pablo Sandoval in good health for a full year, that’s the equivalent of three major acquisitions. Adding Melky Cabrera to that mix is a bonus as well.
There’s a lot of fans that are on the fence with Beltran. Some want him back and others hope the Giants don’t re-sign him. Beltran can flat out hit and seeing him in the lineup with the other guys is going to make the Giants lineup that must stronger. The Giants should only sign him if it’s the right deal for them. That’s why a two-three year deal would be perfect. Anything more than that wouldn’t be in our teams best interest for the long haul.
