Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle gave some insights on the game today. Schulman said first baseman Aubrey Huff summed up his entire reputation by hitting a monster homer to right-center on his first pitch as a Giant. Then, in the bottom of the first, he dropped his first throw from an infielder, allowing Ichiro Suzuki to reach on an error.
Tim Lincecum threw 33 pitches in his lone inning and said he is having the same balance issues he has every spring.
“First game, excuses aside, I felt a little more amped up,” he said. “My arm was ahead of my body, I wasn’t using my legs and my front side was leaking out, and the ball was riding into the right-handed box.”
As Lincecum was talking to reporters, Ken Griffey Jr walked in, introduced himself and shook hands with Lincecum, who rooted for Griffey as a kid.
King of Cali thoughts: I know this is just Spring Training, so you can take the games as just practice. It seems like anything a player does in spring is just taken in a positive way. Like if Lincecum doesn’t have a good outing. People may say it’s because he’s working on something. If someone has a good game it’s because they are hot and ready for the season.
In all honesty no one knows what each player is working on when they are playing these games. I know some guys pretend their is a runner on first and try to hit to the right side, so I hope no one takes their favorite players performances to seriously in these games. The players that are trying to win spots on the team are a different story. I’m sure Madison Bumgarner isn’t going to go out there and try to look bad. He’s going to try to dominate and show he should be the 5th man in the rotation.

Nick Cafardo of Boston Globe reports that the Marlins could deal second baseman Dan Uggla or third baseman Jorge Cantu; both are in demand. The Giants are very interested in Uggla.
King of Cali thoughts: Nothing new on that Uggla rumor, but everyone around the Major League keeps reporting how interested the Giants are in trading for Uggla. The Giants do not want to part with any pitching, so the question is how they can get this deal to work.
Nick also says the Giants need bats. At least two big ones for the middle of the order. Anyone and anything is possible. With Molina likely to depart, the Giants want a veteran to nurture rookie Buster Posey (Pudge Rodriguez?), one back-end starter, and some bullpen help. He does think pitching prospect Jonathan Sanchez could be dangled for the right bat.
King of Cali thoughts: Pudge would be a smart move for the Giants. He had a down year with the bat, but if he’s willing to platoon. That’s someone you want to mentor Posey. He also will draw some fans into the seats to see him. He’s not the big name guy you want, but Pudge still has a fan base.

Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com say several teams are calling the Rangers for Nelson Cruz. One of the Major League source said the club is “not motivated” to move the slugging outfielder because of his productivity and reasonable salary.
Cruz could intrigue clubs such as the Braves, Cardinals and Giants if their other efforts to add an outfield bat fall short. (It’s not know if any of them have inquired about his availability.)
King of Cali thoughts: Cruz would be a great addition to the Giants lineup. He plays Right Field and he hit 33 homers, .260 AVG and 76 RBIs. Just not sure how much the Giants would have to give up to get that trade done. Cruz salary in 2009 was $408,070 per Cot’s Baseball Contracts.

Jon Heyman of SI.com says the Marlins are looking to trade some players to free up space on their already microscopic payroll. Dan Uggla is still the name that keeps coming up, and the Giants and Orioles are still showing interest.
Milton Bradley: The Cubs are eager to unload him, with the Rangers, Rays and Giants appearing to be the most likely to land the talented-yet-troubled outfielder.
Mark DeRosa: There is now around a dozen teams that have inquired about DeRosa. The San Francisco Giants are one of those teams.

Jon Heyman reports of SI.com reports that the Yankees have been thinking about a deal that might top out at about $10 million a year, but coming off a superb season. Johnny Damon doesn’t seem to feel he deserves a cut from $13 million he made last season. The Giants, who badly need a productive outfielder, appear to have emerged as one potential competitor.

This is the San Francisco Giants roster. I will try to keep this updated as much as possible. I know a lot of hardcore Giants fans want to see who’s coming off the books and who’s signed till when. I figured why not add that information right here. Feel free to send me an email with any updates that I have missed or corrections you think should be made.
I have gathered this information from multiple websites. A very good site to look up baseball contract information for any MLB team is Cot’s Baseball Contracts. I did use that site and a few others, so you may see information vary because I did use multiple sources. Please click the link below to view the San Francisco Giants Roster and Contract information.
