SF Giants Rumors: Hitting Streak, Hitless Streak, Home Sweet Home

Posted on April 27th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

The San Francisco Giants lost the series with Dusty Baker‘s Red, but did manage to pull off a come from behind win in the 9th inning to avoid the sweep. This is the first series the Giants have lost since the opening series sweep in Arizona.

Hitting Streaks

Angel Pagan kept his hitting streak going (now at 11 games), and his big hit was a 3-run homer to give the Giants a 6-5 lead in the top of the 9th.

The man with the big hit streak is Pablo Sandoval. This guy can just flat out rake. He’s in the midst of a 19 game hitting streak, and looks to extend it to 20 tonight at AT&T Park against the Padres.

Hitless Streak

Remember how hot Nate Schierholtz was in the double header in New York? He had six hits that day, and looked like he was hitting beach balls. Well, a lot has changed since then. Schierholtz was hitless in Cincinnati which means he’s 0-for-13 since that double header in New York.

Home Sweet Home

The Giants start a 9-game homestand tonight against the Padres, Marlins and Brewers.

SF Giants Rumors: Sleepy Giants, Welcome Arias, Hitting Sandoval, Rehab Freddy

Posted on April 25th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

The San Francisco Giants arrived in Cincinnati at 3am, so I guess that’s the reason they looked like they were sleeping offensively till the 9th inning in last nights game.

It appears Aubrey Huff will not be joining the team anytime soon. The Giants are purchasing the contract of infielder Joaquin Arias to take Huff’s spot on the roster. It’s likely Huff will be placed on the 7-day personal leave list or the 15-day DL.

Keeps On Hitting

Pablo Sandoval keeps the hitting streak intact with a single in the 9th inning. The streak is now at 17 games, and that’s the SF Giants record for a hitting streak to start the season. Sandoval passed Willie Mays. The longest streak since 2000 is held by ex-Giant Edgar Renteria in 2006 with the Braves.

Rehab

Freddy Sanchez went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI in his 2nd game for the San Jose Giants. He’s currently 3-for-7 in his 2 rehab games. May 11th is the day the Giants would like Sanchez to join the team in Arizona.

SF Giants Rumors: Huff MIA, Sandoval Streak, Sanchez Rehab, Winning Ways Continue

Posted on April 24th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle said Aubrey Huff left the team yesterday for family reasons. Manager Bruce Bochy does expect Huff to join the team in Cincinnati today.

The Kung Fu Panda (Pablo Sandoval) had a hit in each game of the double header yesterday to tie the San Francisco Giants record for a 16 game hitting streak to start a season. That record was held by the great Willie Mays. Sandoval looks to break the record tonight against Mat Latos and the Reds.

Infielder Freddy Sanchez started his minor league rehab last night with the San Jose Giants. Sanchez went 1-for-3 in a DH role. The Giants are hoping Sanchez can play the field in the next couple of days. The plan is for Sanchez to join the Giants in Arizona for a three-game series with the D-Backs on May 11th.

Winning Ways Continue

The Giants New York trip turns out the be a good one. The G-men keep their winning ways rolling as they won the 4-game series three games to one. Next stop for the Giants is Cincinnati for a 3-game set with the Dusty Baker‘s Reds.

Since being swept in the opening series in Arizona. The Giants have won every series since, and are now over .500 with an 9-7 record.

SF Giants Rumors: Double Header, Lincecum, Bumgarner, Sandoval, Etc.

Posted on April 23rd, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

The San Francisco Giants are playing a double header today against the Mets. Tim Lincecum (0-2, 10.54 ERA) gets the start in game 1, and Madison Bumgarner (2-1, 3.63 ERA) gets the game 2 start.

If Lincecum is going to get out of his funk. It’s going to happen today! Lincecum has gone 3-0 with a 0.41 ERA in his last 3 starts against the Mets.

You Hit, I Hit, We Hit

Pablo Sandoval is currently on a 14 game hitting streak, and is looking to keep it going! The longest SF Giants hit streak to begin a season is held by the living legend Willie Mays at 16 games (1960).

Rehab

Freddy Sanchez is starting his rehab tonight with the San Jose Giants. He will be in a DH role for a couple of games, but the Giants hope he plays the field by mid-week.

SF Giants Rumors: Classic Game, Fear The Beard, Hot Stick, Slow Start, Road Trip

Posted on April 19th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

If you missed last nights game, you missed a classic! Matt Cain tossed 9 innings of shutout ball, and only allowed 2 hits. However, it wasn’t enough to get the win. Cliff Lee tossed 10 innings of shutout ball, and allowed 7 hits. The San Francisco Giants did manage to get a walk-off win in the bottom of the 11th inning. Thanks to a clutch hit by Melky Cabrera, scoring Brandon Belt from 2nd base.

Fear The Beard

Today is the day that everyone was hoping wouldn’t have to come. Closer Brian Wilson is having season ending Tommy John surgery today.

Hot Stick

The Kung Fu Panda (Pablo Sandoval) keeps his hitting streak alive by hitting a single in the 4th inning off of Lee. The streak is now at 12 games and Sandoval’s average is .333 on the young season.

Slow Start Doesn’t Last Long

After starting the season by getting swept by the D-Backs in Arizona. The Giants have won the last 3 series against the Rockies, Pirates and Phillies to pull even at .500 (6-6 record).

Road Trip

The G-men hit the road to start a 7 game road trip. It starts Friday in New York with a 4 game series against the Mets. Then the final 3 games against the Reds.

SF Giants Rumors: Bumgarner, Casilla, Sandoval, Posey, Etc…

Posted on April 18th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

The San Francisco Giants are back in the win column! The new $35 million dollar man (Madison Bumgarner) gets the win to improve his record (2-1).

With closer Brian Wilson likely out for the season. The Giants gave the ball to Santiago Casilla to get the save, and he was able to get the job done without a real scare. Shortstop Brandon Crawford did make a sweet play for the final out of the game.

Who’s Hot?

Pablo Sandoval has extended his hitting streak to 11 games. It’s the longest active streak in the National League. Sandoval is currently hitting .341 during this streak. Is it to early to start the All Star voting?

The cleanup hitter Buster Posey had another 3 hit night! It’s back-to-back nights for Posey. They were 3 bloopers hits, but a hit is a hit in the record books! Those hits help raise Posey’s average to .375.

Well I wouldn’t say Melky Cabrera is hot, but he did snap his 0-for-12 hitless streak by hitting an RBI triple. Cabrera can really swing the bat (.283 AVG) and I wouldn’t expect this guy to have very many long hitless streaks.

Bullpen

The 7, 8, and 9th inning belonged to the Giants bullpen. Clay Hensley, Sergio Romo and Casilla combined to face 10 hitters and just allowing 1 hit. It was a shutdown performance for a very confident bullpen!

SF Giants Rumors: Cabrera, Posey, Sandoval, Lincecum and Sanchez

Posted on April 17th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

The Freak, Tim Lincecum at Giants Media Day (2012).The San Francisco Giants hot hitting outfielder Melky Cabrera has fell back down to earth. Cabrera had an 0-for-4 night, and is hitless in his last 12 at-bats (.293 AVG).

Buster Posey‘s bat is starting to heat up. Posey had a 3-for-4 night, and is now currently hitting .321.

Pablo Sandoval has a 10 game hitting streak going right now, and is hitting .325 for the season.

Giants ace Tim Lincecum has fallen to an 0-and-2 start. Lincecum had another bad 1st inning, and has allowed 9 1st inning runs in just 3 starts. Last year Lincecum allowed 8 1st inning runs for the entire season.

I’m still not really worried about Lincecum. He’s going to turn this around, and there was signs of that from the second inning and on in last nights game.

Infielder Freddy Sanchez has had a minor setback. He felt soreness from throwing and will likely join the San Jose Giants by the end of the week.

SF Giants Rumors: Commitment To Pitching, Lincecum Next?

Posted on April 16th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

The San Francisco Giants have locked up Madison Bumgarner to a five year extension (through 2017) for $35 million or $40 million if Bumgarner qualifies as a Super 2 (meaning two-plus years of service time). The Giants weren’t kidding when they said they wanted to lock up their pitching staff!

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle has the breakdown of how the extension will work and the annual salary for Bumgarner.

Below is the two different annual salary breakdowns for Bumgarner depending if he finishes the season as a Super 2 or not. Shea’s article also explains how he can qualify as a Super 2.

Doesn’t Qualify For Super 2

2013: $750K, 2014: $3.75M, 2015: $6.75M, 2016: $9.75M, 2017: $11.5M

Does Qualify For Super 2

2013: $3M, 2014: $5.5M, 2015: $7M, 2016: $10M, 2017: $12M

Bumgarner gets a $1 million signing bonus with a $1.5 million optional buyout. All of Bumgarner’s arbitration years are covered in this contract, and one free agent year as well. This deal has two option years, a club/vesting option for the 2018 and club option for 2019.

What’s your thoughts on Bumgarner and Matt Cain being locked up? Do you think this means the Giants are preparing for Tim Lincecum to walk, or they’re hoping he will sign as well?

SF Giants Rumors: Brian Wilson Wants To Rehab In San Francisco

Posted on April 16th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Yes, it’s true closer Brian Wilson will not pitch again in the 2012 season. Thursday in Colorado Wilson felt a pop in his elbow but refused to come off the mound. Wilson didn’t want to walk off the mound feeling like a failure. Which is why he still wanted to complete the inning and get the save for Madison Bumgarner.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle has an article with more Wilson news.

For the fans that are worried about not seeing Wilson around all season. He plans to stay with the team and not rehab in Arizona.

“I’m not going to disappear,” Wilson said. “If I do have to rehab, it’s going to be here. I’ll be in the locker room. I’m not going to miss a game.”

What’s your thoughts on Wilson’s elbow injury?

SF Giants Rumors: Scoring Isn’t A Problem, Young vs. Old, Today’s Lineup

Posted on April 12th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

It’s no secret that the San Francisco Giants pitching is no where close to where it should be. All I can say is these guys are way to good, so they will get this turned around soon.

The offense is what really has a lot of Giants fans excited right now. We know the pitchers are going to get back in their groove, and the wins will start to pile up with the way the G-Men are putting up runs.

They’re averaging 5.80 runs per game  through the first 5 games of this young season. That’s the most in the National League and 2nd in the Majors to the Tigers (6.60).

Last Game Of The Road Trip

Today’s road trip finale has the young Madison Bumgarner (22) up against the not so young Jamie Moyer (49). Moyer has been pitching in the majors longer than Bumgarner has been on the planet earth. Moyer’s major league debut was 3 years prior to Bumgarner being born.

Today’s Lineup

Angel Pagan CF
Melky Cabrera LF
Pablo Sandoval 3B
Buster Posey C
Brett Pill 1B
Nate Schierholtz RF
Ryan Theriot 2B
Brandon Crawford SS
Madison Bumgarner P
