The San Francisco Giants hottest hitter in the playoffs Cody Ross says he wants to finish his career with the Giants. Ross is in his final year of arbitration, and should receive a slight raise from the $4.45 million he received this year.  

For all you fans that were tired of hearing about the Dan Uggla rumors. I have another for you! Ross has been trying to persuade Uggla from signing a long term deal with the Marlins. He wants Uggla to play his final arbitration year with the Marlins, so he can sign with the Giants after the 2011 season.  

Ross said, “This team is built for years to come, and I’d love to play here longer than this run we’re having. I’d like to stay for my career.”

Manager Bruce Bochy of the San Francisco Giants, said (on KNBR) it’s official that Tim Lincecum will start game 1 Thursday against the Atlanta Braves. It’s 99% chance Matt Cain will get the game 2 start and Bochy says you can assume Jonathan Sanchez is likely to get the game 3 start in Atlanta. Game 4 in Atlanta will likely have Madison Bumgarner on the hill unless the Giants are in a bad spot. Then Timmy may get the start on short rest.  

When asked if Barry Zito will make the 25 man playoff roster. Bochy didn’t say one way or another if Zito will be on the playoff roster or not. When asked about Aaron Rowand and Edgar Renteria being on the roster. Bochy said he doesn’t really want to say anything until he talks to the players first.  

Bochy said they will know tonight by 5pm which players will be on the roster, but may not announce it yet. They don’t have to finalize the roster until 10am Thursday morning. The Giants are likely to go with 11 pitchers. Which means they will have 14 position players. I know this because 25 players minus 11 pitchers equals 14 position players. Hope you’re ready for an Orange October!

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says Freddy Sanchez will undergo an MRI exam today on his right shoulder. Sanchez can still swing the bat, but he’s not able to make any throws. Sanchez did play in yesterday’s game like this, and was able to hit a homerun.  

Sanchez said “We’ll see. Obviously, I want to do everything I can to be in there. At the same time, I don’t want to hurt the team in any way if I can’t make a play or turn a double play.”  

I asked the Giants Beat writer Chris Haft if he still wants to see Sanchez at second base for his bat, or just have him grab some pine and just pinch hit.   Haft said, “Freddy’s swinging the bat so well that it’s tempting to leave him in there. But I think you have to go with Fontenot. If you can’t turn double plays, you’re hurting the team.”

The San Francisco Giants are still not sure if they will be starting the season off in Taiwan against the Diamondbacks. If they do it will be a 2 game series. The games will be considered home games for the Diamondbacks and will be held at the end of March. The Giants would then fly back and get in 2 more exhibition games against the A’s, and then continue the season in Los Angeles against the Dodgers on Friday April 1st.  

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says, players would earn $10,000 apiece for going to Taiwan and are negotiating to ensure coaches and other team employees get the same. Now I need to figure out how to be a team employee by the end of March!  

David Biderman of The Wall Street Journal says a study was done that a 48% increase in a team’s attendance makes that team score an extra run every game. He said if the Padres had 100% attendance in every home game this season they would have 3.41 additional wins. I guess Giants fans are sure glad they would rather surf instead of going to watch their team play.

Just wanted to get a quick post out there for you HARDCORE Giants fans. The San Francisco Giants start a 10 game road trip tomorrow against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The San Diego Padres will be home for 10 games starting tomorrow, so we should see where the Giants stand after this road trip..

Side Notes

Tim Lincecum went 0-for-August, and got his first win last night since July 30th.

Darren Ford made his major league debut as a pinch runner. He scored the winning run, and it was also his first time ever in a major league park. Oh and did I forget to mention he also didn’t arrive to the game till the 2nd inning. Talk about a crazy day for Ford.

Ford was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008 in the Ray Durham trade.

Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times says former San Francisco Giants outfielder Dave Roberts expects full recovery from cancer.    

Roberts played with the Giants in 2007 and 2008. He played a total of 166 games in a Giants uniform.
